I have a super similar pattern, same time period, similar cut, that has the plunging neckline and a split long skirt options and it JUST occurred to me I should try it on a knit. why yes I HAVE been a fan of Charlie's for a while as well and I have seen her use this pattern a bajillion and a half times.

I am stilling waiting on my items to be process that they received on June 29, 2024 and they are still being processed. All items are new with tags and if anyone sees a Hanifa green cardigan on the site let me know. I have plenty of early makes I’m not as proud of, some are “just around the house” cloths but I wear all the time because they are comfy even if a little wonky. I’ve been fortunate enough to never have any negative comments on my hand made cloths. Plenty of odd looks, but I wear skirts/dresses and hats in a place where woman just don’t. The few who have spoken to me have been very sweet and encouraging in their comments. I do notice it’s mostly senior woman, either because they are from an era before people got very shy taking to strangers, and/or learned to and have sewn for themselves/family and have an appreciation for it. One asked if my job was as a historical reenactment person, which it’s sadly not, but it so made my day that they clocked the era I was dressed for and thought it good enough to have that job.

I like selling on eBay the most too! A little more finicky with the shipping info required pre-posting, but the highest yield by far.

Bra strap problem can be fixed with a beige bra strap or gray strap. You could also add a little scrap triangle of your fabric to just cover where your strap is.

A lot of the diet culture was extremely toxic back then. My Mum is an almond mum. The only time she ever called me beautiful was when I was in hospital with complications due to Bulimia, not during my wedding dress try on (the dressmaker actually chucked her out of the studio because of her comments). I hate her for it, I’ve tried to reconnect, but she just seems to keep going back to her old habits. I’m about to have a kid and don’t want them exposed to that, so we don’t talk. However I also empathise with women of that generation as I had to watch a bunch of old adverts for my Women’s Studies major at University.

You inspired me!! I decided to go to my local Salvos (Australian for the Salvation Army). I found an uncut 70s tiered skirt pattern and I found a closing fabric shop sale and purchased some fabric for it. The entire project cost me $23! Australian dollar (sewing stuff is stupidly expensive here).

I don’t understand why they don’t just copy the pattern. It shouldn’t be hard. Do they not have the originals anymore? I guess I understand that if they’ve gotten rid of the different sizes and now have to regrade it. But you’d think it’d be better to just rebuy their own vintage patterns and copy them faithfully.

Just wanted to let you know… I purposefully get out my toenail clippers for freeing our gifts from zip ties and other packaging! And I will NEVER use my fabric scissors!!!!! 😊

I never cut original patterns. I use tissue paper and trace them and then use the tissue paper pattern.

I made a dress from a vintage reproduction pattern. The dress turned out fantastic …. Except for the bodice. I now need to go in and tack down the gathered bust area because it doesn’t sit right on the sides. And the button back closure I think I’ll replace with a zipper if I make a second one. I have 3 more of those vintage patterns I want to try, but I’ll do muslins first for fit issues.

You are so talented. I love the way you utilized the shirt tails at the hemline for that scalloped effect. And I love watching you sew even tho' I have no idea what under stitching is lol. I do miss the shows where you display your patterns one-by-one. Surprises are always fun. June's Journey is one of my favorite games - been playing since 2018.

I helped my parents move a few years ago on a 48 hour truck hire. The fact the the Canada's did this all in 36 hours is a truly gargantuan effort. It also brings back all the stress I felt when I did it.

I can remember when my mom made her dresses in the 1960s and she always got mad with the side zippers. She changed to back zippers and was happy with it. She was a petit person and struggled with the side zipped dresses too.

I love how much I can relate to things you say and do in your videos. Case in point, I, too, watch videos and play games instead of crafting. I have (at the very least) 5 projects in the room currently that are unfinished. Yay adhd!

Pinking shears are annoying, especially when they go dull. Pinking blade for the rotary cutter is so much easier

We have the same machine :) - the slowest start up ever... This machine has a basting feature, the works great. use the "long stitch" function and lengthen your stitch length a bit. I use it lot when making mock ups, gathering and blind hemming. Turns a 4mm stitch length to an 8mm stitch.

Both my grandma's, most of my aunts, my self and a sister and some nieces bringing us at least 80 years of plus sized relitives, and lots of neighbors. So there people who don't think "plus" didn't exist. We have always been around.

But since the modern pattern is slightly larger than the vintage, doesn’t it make sense that the darts, etc would be slightly off in order to accommodate that change? I also wonder if there has been a shift in the amount of ease expected in our garments especially since we don’t wear nearly as constricting of foundation wear? And the under arm difference does seem to be slight. It looks like much more because the vintage pattern has the seam allowance drawn on with a smooth arc that makes it seem much more rounded than the cut line.

I am late to the party but love the white fabric with the circles of blue flowers at 10:28. I don’t know why I love it! I think this fabric would make a nice blazer to wear with navy blue slacks.
